FAQ

Questions we hear every week.

The honest short answers. If yours isn't here, the free call is the fastest way to get it.

General

Is this physical therapy?

No. Lowcountry Movement is a private wellness and mobility practice. Erin is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, but she works here as a mobility and movement specialist — not a treating PT. Sessions focus on strength, balance, fall prevention, and gentle movement, within the scope of her credentials.

We coordinate with your physical therapist or physician when that's helpful, and we stay carefully within Erin's scope of practice.

Who is this for?

Primarily older adults in the Charleston lowcountry who want to stay strong, steady, and independent in their own homes — whether that's post-discharge recovery, fall prevention, chronic-condition management, or simply wanting to feel better on daily walks.

Do I need to be already fit to start?

No. Most of Erin's clients start from "I haven't really exercised in years" or "I'm recovering from something." The whole practice is built to meet you where you are — including from a chair.

Sessions

How long is each session?

Regular sessions are 60 minutes. Your initial assessment is 75 minutes to make space for a home walk-through and a proper first conversation.

How often should we meet?

Most clients start with once or twice a week and settle into a rhythm that fits their goals. Erin will suggest a cadence after the first assessment — no pressure to over-book.

What should I wear?

Whatever's comfortable and lets you move. No special clothes required. Bare feet or non-slip socks for seated movement; supportive shoes for balance and strength work.

Do I need equipment at home?

Nothing to start. Erin brings light hand weights, resistance bands, and a mat. If we eventually want to add a tool to your weekly practice, she'll recommend something simple and inexpensive.

Safety & scope

I'm recovering from surgery. Can we still work together?

Often, yes — but timing matters. We'll want your surgeon's clearance and any precautions from your PT. The free call is the right place to work that out together.

What conditions does Erin work with?

Erin's three pillars are balance, mobility, and pain management — so common situations include fall risk and post-fall recovery, post-PT discharge, chronic pain or tension, arthritis and joint stiffness, post-surgical recovery (hip/knee), osteoporosis, and general deconditioning. See the services page for a fuller list.

What if something hurts?

We stop. We modify. We find a different shape. There is no version of this practice where you grit through pain.

Logistics

Where do you serve?

Daniel Island, Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, and downtown Charleston — the whole east-of-the-Ashley footprint plus the peninsula. Other lowcountry neighborhoods, just ask.

What if I live in a retirement community?

Great — Erin works in many of them. She just needs to clear guest access with the front desk on her first visit.

Do I need to have a big open space?

No. A chair, a section of wall, and about a six-by-six-foot patch of floor is plenty. A living room is a perfect studio.

Payment & insurance

Do you take insurance?

We do not bill insurance directly. Some clients use HSA / FSA funds and we're happy to provide receipts.

How do I pay?

Card on file is easiest. We also accept check or Zelle for clients who prefer. Packages are billed monthly.

Can a family member pay on someone's behalf?

Absolutely. Adult children often sponsor their parents' sessions. We'll set up billing to whichever card you prefer.
